About VisaStay

What is VisaStay?

VisaStay is a visa duration tracker and overstay-alert app for travelers, expats, and digital nomads. Enter your passport and destination and VisaStay calculates exactly how many days you can legally stay, counts down in real time, and warns you before you overstay.

Which passports does VisaStay support?

32+ passport nationalities, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, India, and most of the EU. If your passport isn't listed yet, you can request it from the sign-in or setup screen in the app. See the full supported passports and destinations list.

Which countries and destinations can I track?

157 destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas — including every Schengen country, the UK, US, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia (Bali), Mexico, and the UAE.

Is VisaStay only for digital nomads?

No — anyone who travels internationally can use it. It's built for frequent travelers, long-stay tourists, expats, remote workers, and digital nomads alike.

How accurate is the visa information?

Visa rules are researched from official government and embassy sources and updated regularly. Rules can change without notice, so always verify with the official embassy or consulate before travelling — VisaStay is a planning aid, not a legal guarantee.

Visa Rules & Entry Requirements

Do I need a visa to visit Europe or the Schengen Area?

Most non-EU passport holders — including US, UK, Canadian, and Australian citizens — can enter the Schengen Area visa-free for short stays, but are capped at 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across all Schengen countries combined. VisaStay's built-in Schengen calculator tracks this automatically so you never lose count.

Do I need a visa for Thailand, Bali, Mexico, or Japan?

It depends on your passport, and rules change often. Open VisaStay, select your passport and the destination, and you'll see the exact entry type (visa-free, visa on arrival, eVisa, ETA, or visa required) and your maximum stay.

What's the difference between visa-free, visa on arrival, eVisa, ETA, and visa required?

Visa exempt — no visa or pre-registration needed, just your passport.
Visa on arrival — no advance visa, but you pay and get a stamp or sticker at the border.
ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) — no visa, but you register online before you travel; fast, low-cost, valid for multiple trips over 1–2 years.
eVisa — a full visa applied for and approved online before you fly.
Visa required — apply in person at an embassy or consulate before travel.

What is an ETA and which countries require one?

An Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a pre-travel approval linked electronically to your passport — no stamp or sticker, just a database record. Countries using ETAs include Australia (ETA/eVisitor), Canada (eTA), the UK (UK ETA), Israel (ETA), and New Zealand (NZeTA). VisaStay flags when one is required for your destination.

Which countries can I visit visa-free with my passport?

It depends on your passport's current visa-free agreements, which change periodically. Set your passport once during onboarding and VisaStay shows live entry-type and stay-length data for all 157 destinations — no need to look it up country by country.

Schengen 90/180 Day Rule

What is the Schengen 90/180 rule?

Most non-EU passport holders are limited to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across all Schengen countries combined — not per country. VisaStay's Schengen calculator tracks your running total and warns you as you approach or exceed the limit. Read the full Schengen 90/180 guide.

Which passports does the Schengen rule apply to?

Most non-EU/EEA passports. EU, EEA, and Swiss passport holders are not subject to the 90/180 limit. VisaStay applies the rule automatically based on your passport country.

How does VisaStay's Schengen calculator work?

It totals every day you've spent in any Schengen country over a rolling 180-day window — across all your trips — and alerts you before you breach the 90-day limit. No manual counting or spreadsheets.

Digital Nomad & Long-Stay Travel

How do digital nomads avoid overstaying a visa?

Log every trip in VisaStay and let the countdown do the math. Set push and email alerts before your visa, ETA, or Schengen window expires, and before you cross the 183-day tax residency threshold.

What is a visa run, and does VisaStay help plan one?

A visa run is a short trip out of and back into a country to reset or extend your permitted stay. VisaStay shows your exact remaining days so you know when a visa run is needed, and lets you plan the return trip in advance.

What is the 183-day tax residency rule?

183 days is a common threshold many countries use to determine tax residency, though rules vary by country. VisaStay's Trip History → Tax Year view tracks days spent per country and flags a potential breach. This is general guidance only, not tax advice — read the 183-day tax residency guide or consult a qualified tax professional for your situation.
